Music is, of course, an unmissable part of the culture! Here are some of the playlists I created, paired with some listening notes. Enjoy!
1. Midnight in Hong Kong
Note: dreamy, refreshing, comforting
*Caution: it may keep you awake
2. (Not) not in the mood for love
In the Mood for Love (2000),one of the best films of the century (also my personal favourite), was actually about two connected yet struggling persons who were NOT in the mood for love. The playlist was very much inspired by the film.
Please enjoy in my proposed order.
3. Norwegian Wood(s)
I still remember how touched I felt the first time I read Norwegian Wood. Unfortunately, I could not find the same resonance in the movie version of the story. The sequence of the playlist echoes with the plots. From carefree university years to the encounter of the two very different girls, from the suicide of one of them, to the reunion with another.
4. The Tipsy World 醉生夢死
Note: heartbreaking, nostalgic, achingly good
Best to enjoy with Lagavulin 16
5. Before Sunrise
Final here come something sweet, very. Who doesn't love Before Sunrise? The playlist brings you back to the sweetest 24 hours in the entire world.
6. Lazy Summer Breeze / 白沙堆
When I was small, I spent the whole summer on a remote island with my grandparents. The costal breeze was strong enough to swipe the heat away. I can't recall doing anything specific there but I deeply miss those days, the island, the sea and my grandma.
7. 2046+1
Everything expires, Wong Kar-wai said, while 2047 is probably the expiry date of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong I used to live in.
Ed. note on 17 Jan 2021 - I was wrong, the expiry date is very likely to be someday soon.
8. True Romance
Just a random playlist adding in all the love songs I like. I created this for my friend's wedding but she found some of the songs too sad (creepy). Wells, I always think that love is is mixture of happiness and sadness. Anyways, I will save it for mine then.
9. South of the Border
My friend once told me, "Don't live on Lamma Island or no guys will take you home". I said, "I won't fall in love with anyone who doesn't like an island". So, I moved here, with my boyfriend.
The playlist captures some of the Lamma impressions, where you can feel the tides, sunbeams, trees, grass, birds, cats, dogs and some interesting humans. Enjoy.
